"possibly the most Canadian album on Canada's most historic instrument." TORONTO STAR

“Voyageur In Song” is a concept record, each song inspired by unique pieces from the Six String Nation guitar, nick-named Voyageur. The project came about after hearing the Six String Nation project creator Jowi Taylor’s moving multimedia presentation and being given the opportunity to spend time writing songs on Voyageur. The album artwork features an original painting from Paul W Thompson depicting the pieces in the guitar written about on the record.

Just like an iceberg Deep in water You keep your feet wet You know the trauma You hold the memories From sea and soil You’ve seen the centuries Bloom and spoil In all the lines written on your face No sign of a fall from grace Fighting darkness against the grain Still letting light come in Cascading shadows You and the mountains Rain & sunshine Nature’s fountain Like elders singing For generations A brand new skin In a six string nation With all the lines written on your face There’s no sign of a fall from grace Fighting darkness against the grain Still letting light come in With all the lines written on your face There’s no sign of a fall from grace Fighting darkness against the grain Still letting light come in, still letting light come in Still letting light, still letting light, still letting light come in

Born on Lennox Island Where the waters dance with diamonds And nature casts a mighty spell His love of life and family Brought him slowly out his shell And time would tell About a good pair of hands and his shucking knife Holding on tight for the time of his life He could make the cut at breakneck speed Doing his best to protect the meat A little slice of heaven and a pearl of hope He opened up a dream and wouldn’t let go Ah the legend of Joe Labobe The world became his oyster Tyne Valley to Galway Ireland How he made his people proud An extraordinary story About an ordinary man Who took his chance With a good pair of hands and his shucking knife Holding on tight for the time of his life Making the cut at breakneck speed Doing his best to protect the meat A little slice of heaven and a pearl of hope He opened up a dream and wouldn’t let go The legend of Joe Labobe Now his knife is enshrined, a guitar ghost Taking its seat from pillar to post Holding on, not letting go That’s Joe Labobe With a good pair of hands and his shucking knife Holding on tight for the time of his life He could make the cut at breakneck speed Doing his best to protect the meat A little slice of heaven and a pearl of hope He opened up a dream and now we know The legend of Joe Labobe (Written by D.Leask)

Fire & Ice 02:54
It took a billion years of shadow To climb up from the lava Into a sad world of grey You might have heard me shouting Trying to move a mountain I guess I had so much to say An aurora borealis, hiding in the darkness Ready to come out and play I am fire and ice And I’ll dance with the light A moonstone skipping home To the rhythm of the night Like getting blood out of a stone From the crust of the unknown I was born to shine through At first glance I’m boring But you ain’t seen the whole thing ‘Til like a bolt from the blue My Labradorescence keeps you guessing Every time it meets your eye I am fire and ice And I’ll dance with the light A moonstone skipping home To the rhythm, to the rhythm To the rhythm of the night I am fire and ice And I’ll dance with the light A moonstone skipping home To the rhythm, to the rhythm To the rhythm of the night (Written by David Leask)

They fought against the war By burning their own guns And faced a Russian Csar Who gave them no choice but to run A safe passage from Leo Tolstoy A chance to realize The truth & resurrection in his words Settled in Saskatchewan Fertile soil in their hands And faith & mother nature kept them alive Now the sun goes down And their prayers rise up Sewing seeds of love & peace Gentle spirit, gentle spirit wrestlers With freedom on their side They slowly found their way How to toil and thrive In harmony each day Raising hope in an elevator A meeting place for for generations 100 years, still it’s standing strong Pioneers and open fields Wood & grain & peaceful dreams Surrendering to every kind of sky As the sun goes down Their prayers rise up Sewing seeds of love & peace Gentle spirit, gentle spirit wrestlers (Written by David Leask)

Take A Seat 03:47
Standing in line since 1894 Travelling time through big red doors Coming here to see dreamers making history Like Booker T Washington, Keller & McClung They raise their voice to overcome And there’s freedom when they speak with the Old Lady down on Shuter street In this hallowed hall, you chase the light And feel sound wrap around you like a lover in the night So let these walls & arches have their say And ghosts of those who graced the stage It’s time to take a seat with the old lady down on Shuter Street Jack Dempsey dances in the ring The Mendelssohn choir begins to sing Hitting all the highs, suddenly the air’s alive Dylan, Buffy, Young & Pavarotti The Jazz Quintet and the Grand Ole Opry Way up in cloud nine, reading Gordon Lightfoot’s mind In this hallowed hall, you chase the light And feel sound wrap around you like a lover in the night So let these walls & arches have their say And ghosts of those who graced the stage It’s time to take a seat with the Old Lady down on Shuter Street All the sounds that shook the air From the stage to the back of every chair And the magic in-between, two seconds of a dream In this hallowed hall, you chase the light And feel sound wrap around you like a lover in the night So let these walls & arches have their say And ghosts of those who graced the stage The crowd is on their feet, It’s time for you to meet, The Grand Old Lady down on Shuter Street (Written by David Leask)

Pain & beauty Let it all move right through me Good tales, sad tales Benevolence & blackmail No excuses Tell me what the awkward truth is Fighters, lovers Singing at one another Words expanding A cultural understanding Peace and noise in All of the different voices Hidden in this storying guitar Écoute les chansons du Voyageur Les chansons du Voyageur Wood and bone, Fretted metal & stone Bridge and saddle Time that’s meant to travel Shame & sorrow Hanging on “old tomorrow” Answers, questions Mother of invention Tough vibrations Reconciliation Gently tethered Strike a chord together Listen to this storying guitar Écoute les chansons du Voyageur Les chansons du Voyageur When you cry, I cry Through the strings and tears I hear everything, everything Written in this storying guitar Écoute les chansons du Voyageur Les chansons du Voyageur Pain & beauty let it all move right through me (repeat x4) (Written by David Leask)
